Obituary

Obituary Written and submitted by family:

Bonnie Lee
February 5, 1947 - June 4, 2020

Beloved Mother, Grandmother and friend, Bonnie Lee - also known as Grateful Bonnie, MamaBonnie, Mom, Ma, and Gramma - passed away on June 4, 2020 in Long Beach, CA after a long and courageous battle with complicated illnesses.

Bonnie was born on February 5, 1947 in the Borough of Audubon, Camden County, New Jersey, to parents Edward Bletterman and June DeFrates. She grew up in Brigantine, New Jersey with her four siblings, Eddie, June, Cheri and Dorothy. As a teen, Bonnie was known for being a great present wrapper, using her skill to earn herself extra money at holidays.

At 16 years old, she enlisted in the US Army where she worked as a Cryptographer. In her 3 years, she traveled, earned a SP4-E4(t) Rank and also received the National Defense Service Medal for her service during the Vietnam era. She was honorably discharged in August of 1966. At this time she relocated herself to California where she stayed for the remainder of her life.

The next 38 years found Bonnie with four children, a few long term relationships, and a struggle with alcohol, but on January 2, 2004 she joined the fellowship of recovery. She was very active in the AA community, attending conventions whenever possible. She shared her experience, strength and hope, giving back what she had been given. She built strong relationships with her children and grandchildren, relationships that meant the world to her.

The last two years, Bonnie fought hard and brave against medical conditions that stumped even doctors. With each setback, she fought back to the bewilderment of us all. She was a walking miracle and we were all blessed to be a part of it.

Bonnie will be greatly missed by her children Angel, Melinda, Melody and Roman, and her grandchildren Joseph, Cheyne, Alyssa, Amanda, Scotty, Chase, Bradley, Emma and Ashlee.

There will be a Memorial Service on Friday June 19, 2020 at 10:30am. This service will be held at Murrieta Valley Funeral Home, 24651 Washington Ave., Murrieta, CA 92562

Following this memorial service, a military motorcade will escort Bonnie to her final resting place at Riverside National Cemetery where she will be honored with a committal service that will include Military honors.

A Gratitude Luncheon will be held for anyone that would love to join us in celebrating the life of Grateful Bonnie on Saturday June 20, 2020 at 12 noon in Lakewood, CA
