Jancarlo Mendiola, 34, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at UCSD Jacobs Medical Center, La Jolla, California. He was born April 20, 1986 in Pueblo Viejo Xicatlacota, Morelos, Mexico. Son of Porfirio Mendiola and Ofelia Hernandez.
Jancarlo “JC” Mendiola enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2004, and honorably served his country for ten years. During this time JC proudly served in the Infantry, achieving the rank of staff Sergeant meritoriously. JC courageously deployed five times during his service, that included combat deployments to Ramadi, Iraq and Marjah, Afghanistan. His dedication to his country fellow brothers and corps is a testament to the man Jancarlo was. Jancarlo‘s loyalty and bond was to the 2nd Battalion 4th Marines, where he served as a squad leader. His diligent dedication to achieve more in advance lead him to later service as a Combat Instructor for three years at the School of Infantry West.
Jancarlo always dreamed of having a family of his own. The vision of him having a family of his own started with the journey where he married the love of his life, RosaAna on May 11, 2013. The marriage was solemnized in Oceanside, California, at St. Mary, Star of the Sea. Jancarlo had always envision becoming a father, he lovingly became Janae’s father as a true example of what love he was capable of. Jancarlo and RosaAna welcomed their son the following year, in March of 2014. Jancarlo‘s dream of having a family of his own, finally came true.
Jancarlo continued his life devotion of protection and trained with ACADEMI for International Development Solutions in 2015, to become a contractor for the United States Department of State Diplomatic Security Mission with the Worldwide Protection Services. In 2016 he was assigned to the U.S. Embassy Protection Detail in Kabul, Afghanistan. His team quickly realized what an asset he was and described “his sense of humor, calm demeanor, and unselfish nature a rare combination of qualities in a man they were fortunate to have in their team”.
Jancarlo ultimately realized his wife and children needed him at home. He wanted his children to have a father and his wife to have a partner. He returned home at end of 2017. The Mendiola family spent two wonderful years as a complete family unit. On March 4, 2019 Jancarlo was diagnosed with an aggressive leukemia. His fight for his life, through all the hardships, and complications of the illness and treatment was for his family.
Jancarlo passed away peacefully with all three of his parents and loving wife by his side his children were fortunate enough to say goodbye to their father.
Jancarlo is survived by his wife RosaAna Mendiola, one daughter and one son Janae and Jerardo Mendiola, parents; Porfirio and Marcela Mendiola and Ofelia Velazquez, three brothers; Adrian, Eric, and Jesus and three sisters; Jessica, Karla, and Daisy.
