Obituary

This will be an informal account of some but not all of the
highlights of the life of Robert Luther Bryant Sr.
He was born in Denmark, Tennessee in 1933 to Frank and
Lola Bryant. He was the youngest of five children. He had two
brothers, Frank Jr. and William (Billy), who are deceased. He also
had two sisters, Geraldine and Marcine, who are deceased.
The family later moved to Jackson, Tennessee where he
attended and graduated from Merry High School. While attending
there he became a drum major because he was so tall. He graduated
in 1953 and relocated to Los Angeles, California in 1954. He was
welcomed by his aunt and uncle and many cousins. Later he met
and married Mittie Kathern Lee on June 11, 1955. From the union,
two children were born.
Donna Bryant Marble and Robert Jr., who died as an infant.
He also had three other daughters, Brenda Bryant, Adrianne Shaw,
and Brandis Dennis.
Robert was affectionately known as Baby brother, by his
siblings, Bob, Bobby, Uncle Bobby, Cousin Bobby, Daddy and
Grandpa by the rest of his family and friends.
He joined the Army in 1955 and was stationed at Fort Lewis
Army base in Washington state. Later he deployed to Alaska. While
in the army he became a cook. He prepared meals for many soldiers
and Army personnel. After leaving active service, he joined the
Army Reserve and continued to cook for them.
Although Robert had a passion for cooking, he is best known his dancing skills.
He loved to dance. Every Friday evening
after work, he would get dressed and go dancing at the 5-Four night
club. He also liked to skate and hang out at the beach. The one
passion that he continued to do until his death, was to listen to his
blues. He loved to listen to Bobby Blue Bland, Otis Reddings, Sam
Cooke, and BB King to name a few.
He was most proud when he became a grandfather to his
only granddaughter, Shariese Stamps and his six grandsons Erik,
Brandon, Stephen, Regginald, Britton, and Braxton. He was also a
great grandfather to Alicia, Dawn, Leah, Darien, Christian, Kwame
Jr., Kazon, Kiara, Nasir. He was a great great grandfather to
Makala and Jhene.
After battling with his many illnesses, he succumbed to the
call from heaven on January 11th of this year.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mittie Kathern,
his daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great
grandchildren and the multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews
and friends.
We are grateful for experiencing his life with him and look
forward to seeing him again.
